Feeding a betta while we're on vacation?

My husband and I go out of town for 2 weeks for vacation. We have a crowntail betta and we were curious about a few products. He is a small 2.5 gallons aquarium, so an automatic document feeder will not work. I looked at the pet store 7 days a pyramid and a 3 days feeder – both apparently dissolves slowly in water over time, giving the fish the food it needs. I thought of these any good? Do they cloud the water and create unhealthy living conditions? My brother will stop at two times during this time to make sure everything is okay, so he can put a new feeder in – he just can not be there to feed him every day. Thanks! I have a Whisper filter actually meant for a 10 gallons aquarium

In a tank this small, I would not use the pyramid cables. They are intended to be used jointly tank with several fish. The description on the 7-day feeder reads: "Feeds 20 medium sized fish in a 10 gallons aquarium for 7 to 8 days." Using one of these in your 2.5 tank with only one fish is just asking for problems. You can culture your own live food for him and your brother could give some to him during his visit. Live food: http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/fishbertspage/feeding.html Betta can go some time without feeding. Just think of all the poor fish whose owners thought that they eat roots and went weeks without proper feeding. It is always better to under feed than over feed and you can come home to a very frustrated and starved betta, but at least it will be alive when you return.
