Florida Keys – are they so bad?

I've never been to the keys before, so I looked at Tripadvisor.com to find a nice place. I looked at some resorts and reviews of Islamorada. I'm not so sure I liked what I saw. The hotels looked like it was the 1955th Are they still that way? Many said there is not much beach in the Keys – is that true? Where is a good way (if possible all inclusive) in the Keys? What is the best key to go to some real R & R (not lokking for family vacations, BTW)? Can you help me find a good place to go?
