How a cell phone affect an airplane flight?

Just wanted to see the Pilots, flight crew and who-knows-it-stuff: How would it affect a flight, if someone opens his cell phone while you are there? Saw someone using his phone while in the middle of a flight, although I did not see him use it for a phone call I actually saw him use his calculator function.

Ok, this is a much debated topic with many complex scenarios. One of the biggest problems is that there are so many different types of cell phones out there, and there are still people out there carrying around phones that are around the 1992nd Old school to say the least. When most commercial airliners was designed and built, they never had any R and D to the problems that cell phones may pose. The main idea is that the phones EMI (electromagnetic interference) will interfere aircraft radio transmissions and / or aircraft navigation systems. This comes back to my mention earlier aircraft manufacturers not doing any R and D. The largest producer is as Airbus and Boeing have made research, although they are not very conclusive yet. Each type of cell phone has a second EMI value. Back in 2004 was an initiative by a few airlines to the FCC and FAA to revise policy on cell phone use in flight. Here is a link to the CNN web site, having regard to the said initiative. http://money.cnn.com/2004/12/09/technology/personaltech/cellphones_inflight/ FAA and the FCC is still reviewing evidence and conduct tests. Also, Mythbusters, the show on the Discovery Channel took over this myth and came up with some interesting results. I unfortuanatly could not find the exact results, but it was Episode 49, if you want to do your own research on the subject. I have personally made some of my own investigations I an A-and P aircraft mechanic and also a commercial pilot. I know that my answer jumps around a bit and is somewhat hard to read, I apologize for what I had surgery a few days ago, and I'm still taking some pretty good pain meds …….. Do not worry, I'm not currently flying or working on board aircraft. :) I will wait until I am completely straight healed up and not on any meds. Hope this helps at least some. I have a lot more resources to information, if anyone wants them.
